Rear Garden near Bury St Edmunds

This week sees the start of another project, this time near Bury St Edmunds. We design gardens throughout the Eastern Counties, so whilst not on our Cambridge doorstep, Bury is fairly close to our studios. The client was keen to have a country garden and a vegetable patch within a design that would offer constant interest. We wanted to create a space that could be used almost whatever the weather and certainly without having to resort to wellies in the worst of it. Moving away from the distinct urban feel of our last project, we designed a garden with a series of interconnected gravel pathways. The idea being that at these intersections the client can sit and enjoy the different elements of the garden. At these points we have specified raised brick beds so that one can sit on the edge and ‘interact’ with the plants - touch, smell and hear them in the breeze, in other words. Over the coming weeks we will watch as the contractors (www.brownie-points.biz) turn this overgrown back garden into an oasis of country living.
